VAT = 100.00 × 19% = 19.00; gross = 100.00 + 19.00 = 119.00
Worked in whole cents: the tax is rounded to the nearest cent (half a cent goes up) and the other amount is the difference, so the boxes always add up. From a gross amount the tax is gross × rate ÷ (100 + rate); from a typed tax amount the net is worked back and your tax amount stays as typed. Your tax authority may set its own rounding rules for invoices.

§ 12 UStG: 19% standard rate; 7% reduced rate, which covers restaurant and catering services (excluding drinks) with no end date in the current text. The European Commission VAT rates table (13/07/2026) also shows 19% / 7%.

How do I add VAT to a net price?
Multiply the net amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 19%, a net price of 100.00 becomes 119.00 gross, of which 19.00 is VAT. The calculator on this page does it with Germany's verified rates preloaded.
How do I work out the VAT included in a gross price?
Multiply the gross (tax-inclusive) amount by rate ÷ (100 + rate), then subtract the result to get the net price. At 19% the share is 19/119 (about 15.9664%): a gross price of 100.00 contains 15.97 VAT and 84.03 net. Type the gross amount into the calculator's gross box to do this for any amount.
