GST 2.0 (56th Council) cut slabs to 5%/18% + 40% special from 22 Sep 2025 (12%/28% removed). Confirmed via PIB/gstcouncil.gov.in; pages blocked direct fetch, hence medium.

India uses a multi-rate system (5-40% (multi-slab)) — enter the rate that applies to your supply; the slabs are listed in the note above.

How the math works

Add GST (forward): gross = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100)

Extract GST (reverse): net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100)

Worked example at India's standard rate: net 100 × (1 + ÷ 100) = 100.00 gross, of which 0.00 is GST.

Issuing a GST-compliant invoice?

Rates are only half of it — what must appear on the invoice (tax numbers, rate per line, reverse-charge wording for cross-border B2B) is covered in the VAT & GST invoicing guide, and the free VAT invoice generator produces a compliant PDF. The full rate dataset behind this page (42 jurisdictions, source per row) is downloadable: CSV · JSON (CC BY 4.0).

India GST FAQ

Does India have GST?

5-40% (multi-slab) — see GST Council / PIB (Govt of India) (verified 2026-06-12) and the note on this page. Always confirm current status against the official source.

How do I add GST to a net price?

Multiply the net amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). Reverse (extracting from a gross, tax-inclusive amount): divide by (1 + rate ÷ 100). The calculator on this page does both.

Where does this rate come from?

Every rate in our dataset cites the source it was verified against — for India, that is GST Council / PIB (Govt of India) (linked on this page), checked on 2026-06-12. The full 42-jurisdiction dataset is downloadable under CC BY 4.0, and every verification pass is logged in our public changelog.
