VAT = 100.00 × 22% = 22.00; gross = 100.00 + 22.00 = 122.00

Worked in whole cents: the tax is rounded to the nearest cent (half a cent goes up) and the other amount is the difference, so the boxes always add up. From a gross amount the tax is gross × rate ÷ (100 + rate); from a typed tax amount the net is worked back and your tax amount stays as typed. How do I add VAT to a net price?

Multiply the net amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 22%, a net price of 100.00 becomes 122.00 gross, of which 22.00 is VAT. The calculator on this page does it with Italy's verified rates preloaded.

How do I work out the VAT included in a gross price?

Multiply the gross (tax-inclusive) amount by rate ÷ (100 + rate), then subtract the result to get the net price. At 22% the share is 22/122 (about 18.0328%): a gross price of 100.00 contains 18.03 VAT and 81.97 net. Type the gross amount into the calculator's gross box to do this for any amount.
