Multi-Currency Invoicing Software Compared: What Each Tool Actually Supports (2026)
"Multi-currency" can mean anything from a currency drop-down on the invoice to automatic exchange rates, foreign-currency bank accounts and currency gains and losses in your books. This page takes seven invoicing tools and quotes, capability by capability, what each vendor says on its own pages, with links. Where a vendor's page is silent, the cell says so. No ratings, no scores.
Method. All vendor pages were read on , from the US version of each site unless a row says otherwise. Every quoted phrase is copied from the linked vendor page. "Not stated on the pages we checked" means exactly that: the feature may exist, but the pages we read do not say so. Prices are the list prices shown on that date, before tax, and change often. We publish a free invoice generator ourselves.
What "multi-currency invoicing" can mean: the capabilities to check
- Currency per client or per invoice. Can one customer be billed in different currencies, and can you change it later?
- Which currencies. A stated number is less useful than checking your customers' currencies are on the list.
- Exchange rates. Typed by you, fetched automatically (from where?), and can you override them?
- Tax in a second currency. UK and EU rules can require the VAT in the national currency; see our invoice currency guide.
- Collecting the payment. Can the customer pay in their currency, and what does conversion cost?
- Holding foreign balances, for example a euro bank account in your books.
- Currency gains and losses recorded in the books.
- Invoice language. Can the labels on the PDF be in the customer's language?
- Mobile app for creating invoices.
- Which plan includes it, and the price in your region.

Tax in a second currency: which tools print it?
None of the vendor pages we checked states whether the invoice can show the VAT or sales tax converted into a second currency, which UK and EU VAT rules can require. That does not mean the feature is missing; ask the vendor or test it in a trial. Our generator prints the net amount, tax and total in a second currency at a rate you type. What the rules actually require, with quotes from HMRC, the EU VAT Directive and the IRS, is in the invoice currency guide.
Free options
Which free invoice generators state currency support is covered in the Currencies column of our free invoice generator comparison. To make a one-off invoice in another currency without an account, use the multi-currency invoice generator.
How to check a tool's multi-currency support yourself
- Search the vendor's help center, not the feature page, for "multi-currency" or "foreign currency". Help articles name plans and limits that marketing pages leave out; that is where the QuickBooks plan list and the Zoho Invoice base-currency answer above come from.
- Check the plan on the pricing page for your region. Xero lists "Use multiple currencies" only under its Established plan in the US.
- In a trial, create one test invoice in your customer's currency with tax on it. Download the PDF and look at it: the currency code, the decimal places, the tax line, and whether a converted tax amount can be shown.
- Read the payment fee page for conversion charges if customers will pay online.
- Compare with the archived page. If a quote here no longer matches, check the page in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine near 25 September 2026 to tell our mistake from their change.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is multi-currency invoicing software?
Software that lets you bill a customer in a currency other than your own and keeps track of what that means for your books. On the vendor pages we checked, that ranges from choosing a currency per client (FreshBooks) or per invoice (Wave) to automatic exchange rates and foreign-currency balances (Xero) and currency gains and losses in the books (Xero, Wave). Check each capability separately; the table on this page lists what each vendor states.
Which invoicing software supports the most currencies?
Of the numbers vendors state on their own pages, Xero says it “supports over 160 currencies” and Stripe says “You can charge customers in over 135 currencies”; PayPal Invoicing states “24 currencies”. QuickBooks Online, FreshBooks, Zoho and Wave did not state a number on the pages we checked. A bigger number matters less than whether your customers' currencies, your plan and your payment method are covered.
Does QuickBooks Online multicurrency need the Plus plan?
Not according to Intuit's own US help article, which covers “QuickBooks Online Essentials, QuickBooks Online Plus, and QuickBooks Online Advanced” and says “Multicurrency is not available for Simple Start users.” It also warns: “Once Multicurrency is on, you can no longer turn it off.” Checked 25 September 2026.
Can Zoho Invoice bill in more than one currency?
Zoho's own pages disagree. Its US FAQ says “No, you can invoice your customers only using your base currency in Zoho Invoice” and points to Zoho Billing, while a global Zoho Invoice help page describes adding currencies and exchange rates. Test it in your own account before relying on it.
Is there a free invoicing tool that handles other currencies?
Our own generator is free: pick one of 8 preset currencies or type a custom symbol, and optionally print a second currency at a rate you type. It is free and unmetered for normal use; an anti-abuse cap of 20 PDFs per device per day (200 per IP) applies, and blank template file downloads are not metered. A one-line credit is switched on by default and one free checkbox in the settings turns it off. It does not send invoices or take payments, and your draft is stored in your own browser on this device. For other free tools, see our free invoice generator comparison.
Who charges the currency conversion fee when a client pays in another currency?
Whoever converts the money. Where the vendor pages state a fee, it is the payment side: Stripe's US pricing adds “1% if currency conversion is required” on cards, and PayPal's US fee page lists a currency conversion spread of “3.00%, or such other amount as may be disclosed to you during the transaction” for most conversions. Xero converts for your books but collects payments through a processor you connect.
Disclosure: we are not a neutral party
We publish a free invoice generator, so we have a commercial interest in how this page reads. The tools compared here do more than ours: they send invoices and, depending on the product, collect payments or keep the books. We quote them rather than judge them, link every source, score no one, and describe our own tool's limits to the same standard.
Found something wrong?
If a quote is out of date or belongs to a different plan or region, contact us with the row and the current URL. We re-check against the vendor's own page and update the date, as described in our data methodology.
