45 Days EOM: Meaning, Both Counting Methods and Due Dates

45 Days EOM means payment is due 45 days after the end of the month in which the invoice is dated. Counting from the last day of that month, an invoice dated 15 January 2026 is due on 17 March 2026 (Tuesday). Because a second counting method gives 31 March 2026, print the exact due date on the invoice.

What 45 Days EOM means

45 days EOM ("end of month") means the payment period of 45 days starts at the end of the month in which the invoice is dated, not on the invoice date itself.

In date arithmetic: find the last day of the invoice month, then add 45 calendar days. That is method 1 below, and it is the reading our tables and due date calculator show first. The words "45 Days EOM" do not say which method applies, so agree it with your customer and print the resulting date on the invoice.

Two ways to count 45 Days EOM

  1. Method 1: end of the invoice month + 45 days. Invoice dated 15 January 2026 → end of month 31 January 2026 → + 45 days = 17 March 2026 (Tuesday).
  2. Method 2: invoice date + 45 days, then to the end of that month. 15 January 2026 + 45 days = 1 March 2026 → end of that month = 31 March 2026 (Tuesday).

Both methods come from a French ministerial answer on "45 jours fin de mois", quoted in the legal section below: the law does not impose either one, and the parties should agree which to use in advance. That answer is French guidance, not a rule for other countries.

Method 1 gives the same due date for every invoice dated in the same month. Method 2 depends on the invoice day, so it is shown for invoices dated the 1st and the 15th.

How many days 45 Days EOM gives

Between 45 and 75 days after the invoice date, under either method. The shortest case is an invoice dated on the last day of a month: 31 January 2026 → 17 March 2026, exactly 45 days. The longest is an invoice dated on the 1st of a 31-day month: 1 January 2026 → 17 March 2026, 75 days (method 1).

45 Days EOM vs Net 45

Net 45 counts 45 days from the invoice date; 45 Days EOM counts from the end of the invoice month, so it is never earlier. The same invoice dates give:

45 Days EOM in Excel or Google Sheets

With the invoice date in cell A2 (format the result cell as a date):

  • Method 1: =EOMONTH(A2,0)+45
  • Method 2: =EOMONTH(A2+45,0)

Microsoft's Excel help says EOMONTH "Returns the serial number for the last day of the month that is the indicated number of months before or after start_date" (Microsoft Support); Google Sheets uses the same syntax, EOMONTH(start_date, months), and "Returns a date representing the last day of a month which falls a specified number of months before or after another date" (Google Docs Editors Help). How to write 45 Days EOM on an invoice

Replace [due date] with the date you worked out. The date removes any doubt about the counting method.

  • Payment terms: 45 days end of month (45 days EOM). Payment is due by [due date].
  • Please pay within 45 days of the end of the invoice month, by [due date].
  • Terms: 45 days EOM, counted from the last day of the invoice month. Due date: [due date].

Filled in for an invoice dated 15 January 2026 (method 1): "Payment terms: 45 days end of month (45 days EOM). Payment is due by 17 March 2026."

France (ministerial guidance): Two ways to count "45 jours fin de mois"

Le mode de computation du délai de 45 jours fin de mois n'est pas imposé par la loi. Les opérateurs ont ainsi la liberté de le calculer de deux manières : soit en ajoutant 45 jours à la fin du mois d'émission de la facture, soit en ajoutant 45 jours à la date d'émission puis en allant jusqu'à la fin du mois. Le mode de calcul retenu doit toutefois être convenu au préalable entre les partenaires commerciaux afin d'éviter toute ambiguïté.

Businesses are therefore free to calculate it in two ways: either by adding 45 days to the end of the month in which the invoice is issued, or by adding 45 days to the date of issue and then going to the end of that month.
